Rock Steady Boxing is in Tallahassee & LEAP Living is excited to bring a 1-2 PUNCH to Parkinson’s! Rock Steady Boxing is a non-contact boxing program that provides vigorous forced exercise (a 5-6 on the rate of perceived exertion scale) needed by the body to fuel the creation of new brain cells – a process known as neurogenesis. New brain cells mean more dopamine which is the neurotransmitter that is lost in people with Parkinson’s. Forced exercise (FE) is an intervention in which one is forced to maintain a greater intensity than is preferred. Research has shown that FE improves motor function, and it is neuroprotective in Parkinsonian-treated animals. Data indicates that the rate of forced exercise may be an important factor in global motor improvements.
